Supro inspired amp to build soon just finished 1st schematic

I would like to remind anyone viewing this thread that I have been building amps for a few years. I'm not interested in getting into pissing matches with other members here. I'm a drummer and get together with a few friends and have a few beers and jam when we can. This is something i do for pleasure. I'm a hands on guy i do not and likely will not dive into the deeper question of electrical engineering. I have taken several chunks of different amps (preamps) that I build on separate boards. I do this for FUN does this resonate with anyone? If you think I'm a moron just pass this thread by OK? thanks

They celebrate getting a reaction, that's it. Generally, they are so desperate for human interaction and, they are usually so vile, that negative attention is the best they can get. The saddest thing is, anyone can get a reaction by acting like an idiot. Anyone. They honestly take pride in the "art" like they've actually accomplished something.

Troll
One of many unsung internet heroes who are almost entirely misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, many trolls are actually quite intelligent. Their habitual attacks on forums is usually a result of their awareness of the pretentiousness and excessive self-importance of many forum enthusiasts. As much as people may hate trolls, they are highly effective - their actions bring much of the stupidity of other forum users out into the great wide open.

Someone who is purposefully posting on a forum/messageboard/site sith the sole aim to irritate the regular members.

Contrary to popular belief there is much more to internet trolling than posting "OMG UR ALL SO GHEYYYY!!!1" "OMFG TRIVIUM SUX ASS U FAGS LOL" and the like. People who post such things will usually be one-post wonders and get banned, however the more experienced troll will attempt to cause some sort of havoc under the admins radar.

Common examples of trolling:
The long-term troll:
These guys don't mind waiting around for the fun to begin. They may pretend to be an average n00b, and give themselves the stereotyical interest(s) of the average member of said forum, then once having a few posts they will gradually try to spread dissent. This type may even pretend to be pally to the admin and get their msn (and try to crack their account password of course) whilst causing general disruption. May act under other proxies and slate these fake trolls on msn to the aforementioned gullible admin. These people, to be frank, usually have no life and love bringing message boards to their knees by putting considerable time into their carnage. If they crack the admins password the board is doomed.

The sophisticated troll:
This type will usually have some sort of distaste for whatever the said message board is discussing and try to cause annoyance as opposed to destructiveness. They will parody the members and see how much they can get over their heads. Subtle pisstaking being their route. They'll usually get banned in the end but will annoy an entire community using this drawn out approach.

The faker troll:
A clever troll, the main aim of the game is to, ironically, act really REALLY stupid, this trolls aim is to argue with members incoherantly, usually using text speak. This is a ploy, the troll only needs to spend 10 seconds writing the babble when the member wastes 10 minutes writing a much more wordy reply. The troll will reply with a stupid rebuff making the member post as many long replies as possible. Using the members weight against them and wasting their forum time... If they are good then their act will be believable and they probably won't get banned unless the admin is strict on txt tlk.

The rank and file spammer:
These are the first to pop into peoples minds, they are similar to the examples stated in the first paragraph. No previous experience necessary, this lot will swarm in, again, usually under proxies to maximise the destructiveness, and spam the place to hell. Only causes mild irritation if not in large numbers.

Join any popular forum for a year and I guarantee you'll see all of these.

People who post empty and meaningless messages, purely to provoke.
Such people are mentally ill and have severe personality issues and insecurity as well as the average mind/priorities of a twelve year old.

Some people just can't grow out of the period in their life when scribbling on the walls and dropping spiders on the girls they liked was acceptable. At 20-30yrs of age, it's just pathetic.


They may tack on a "point" to draw out specific types of people but, it really doesn't matter. They're all the same. They all say the same shit. They all have the same excuses. They all fall back on the same responses and, they all share the same obliviousness to how stupid and pointless their lives are.



Don't let the occasional "smart" troll fool you. There is no "art" to it. Ahem. All this aside, I would just like to re-interject a benign comment: yes, you can build stripped-down versions of the 1624T circuit (although your link above and your preamp is based on the later 6424 which is not a 1624T) and it will still sound like a 1624T. Valco themselves did it with one of the Oahu-branded models and a rare variant that was branded for Dwight. They sound just like a 1624T but they don't have the trem and so they have two identical channels. You note that you are building a "Supro inspired" build which is great, but I don't see how on earth you are going to achieve this without using one of the classic Valco paraphase inverters because the way these were designed is one of the crucial things which renders Valcos to be such raunchy, "trashy" amps. They are inherently unbalanced and they do very interesting things when pushed. They are also very gainy and easily driven to clipping. I don't understand why you are essentially lifting a big portion of the 6424 preamp 'verbatim' but then trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the paraphase?

Thank you EFK. This is the reason I'm here. I have never built an amp with the Paraphase. It may seem I'm trying to re-invent the wheel but I'm not. It was my understanding that the 6424 was essentially the same amp as the 1624t. It was not my intention to come across so convoluted. If you could provide a link to the several different variants or even the best one of the 6 you know of, as you mentioned in a post that came through in email but did not materialize on the board, I would be grateful.

I've only recently become aware of this amp and have never seen one in real life. It was not my intention to get anyone excited. I typically like fixed bias and have used the biasing scheme in the past. I will not post anything so off the cuff in the future and will make sure I think its bullet proof before running into the heard like a young bull. I gotta admit I long for those days thou LOL Thank you.

Does that link I posted directly above work for you? It's to a .pdf file of the version 1 and version 2 1624T schematic; this works for amps before around late 1960/early 1961. Version 3 did away with the grid leak input and introduced the 6424 type paraphase, and then the 6424 added the dual tone controls. If you can open the link above, just compare it to any of the 6424 schematics that are all over; the differences will jump out very quickly.

I simply noted that swingarm was derailing the issue for himself and even seemingly acting counter productive to advice that had been given. He did this in the guise that he was unaware so it's then impossible to hold him at fault. This behavior continues to draw attention with no effective result. That is classic trolling.

And I didn't say we were being trolled. I wondered if we were. I thought we might be. That is all. I didn't even make a big deal out of it, call anyone out, use colorful expletives or make any implications about anyone's intellect. In fact I even offered some constructive observation in that same post.

Everything else surrounding this situation is of swingarm's construction.

My intention wasn't to derail the thread. I had questions based on my observations and hoped to be wrong. Or, conversely, to save Dave any continued waste of time. swingarm had the option of simply saying "No. You are not being trolled." And even "Why would I do that? What are you thinking?"

I feel a bit sheepish now that Jazz has observed my actions as "uncharacteristic" (and Dude "liked" the post too). Two members I respect and don't like losing cred with.

The way it stands now, all I can say is maybe I missed. And maybe I didn't.
