I asked and searched this one out already, but one more time more specifically..

I have a 6L6 amp, but I also have a Hammond 1650KA OT with 3.4K impedance laying around. It would be no thing to throw this into the amp with some EL34's.

Would there be an appreciable difference in tone it I just biased the EL43's on the 6L6 OT? I'd throw in some 1k-5W on the screens for piece of mind.

    Hi Leadfoot,
Noted that no one was willing to venture an opinion so FWIW my 2c.

Try the EL34 on the existing OT first. If you don't like that then changing the OT tranny to a 3K4 Raa won't make you like it any better.

If you do like it then the "HiFi" output tranny will give you stronger top and bottom end, and may change the overdrive characteristic in that, it (being rated to 50Watts at 30Hz), will not ever run into core saturation. Make sure you keep tranny lead lengths etc such that you can reverse the tranny change if you don't like it.

Put the 1K 5W screen resistors in anyway regardless of what else you do.

    Cheers,
    Ian
