Not sure how this would work, but it sound like you almost need a second current source in parallel with the HT rectifier that kicks on the recovery side of the sag. In my simplistic vision, this would look like a big cap with a MOSFET (or some other device) set up to conduct when the HT drops below some specified point for some duration of time. Basically an electrical version of the fill mechanism on your toilet.

Well it turns out that it's predominantly the preamp that's lagging with the sag/recharge. I'm using what would be typical resistances in the rail but some time ago I latched onto the trend toward larger main filters. Under heavy OD conditions the combination has my first, and somewhat second preamp stages experiencing a lag before they even begin to recharge, and a subsequent long charge time. Fussing with PSUDII it looks like there's much that can be done without major surgery. I may branch the rail after all but that will be determined with the "change something... listen... change something... listen" session on the bench.
