  • Wiring up a Hammond 300 series universal transformer

I have a Hammond 370 EX transformer with universal pirmary voltage taps and I'm wondering if there is some way to wire it up to a line voltage selector switch so that line voltage selection can be done without moving jumpers. I have a six position voltage selector switch like 0033.3527 Schurter | Mouser which worked for another transformer with a single primary winding with multiple taps but the Hammond configuration has two primary windings that are hooked up in differing phase and tap configurations to adapt to various input voltages.

I'd like to have a simple voltage selector switch but it it is going to require a two gang two pole six throw 240V rotary switch I'll probably just opt for a terminal strip with jumpers. Does anyone have experience with this or have any ideas about how to simplify the user interface.

    Thanks,

    Hi Hank.
Yes, it will require more than a simple selector switch, since the primaries must be wired in parallel or series.

On the other hand, unless you are an international traveler, you mostly only set the mains voltage once and leave it. So a terminal strip speaks to me.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
