      An ECL80 is therefore a Triode/Pentode with a 6.3V heater
But why not 6TP...? I guess the marketing department got involved (sorry sales guys)

There's more to it than I posted. I think E actually denotes 6.3/12.6V parallel/series heater. C is small signal triode and L is power pentode. The 80 numbers are B9A base.

he discusses it a bit at AX84, where I can't remember a tube they didn't make into a guitar amp...

            Triode/Pentodes
Here is a handy little chart, for comparison purposes the ECL80 Triode Section has a mu of approx. 17 and the Pentode section has a power rating of 3.5W
            Cheers,

Well there I was, just browsing and there was a box of 20 ECL80 valves for £2. So I bought them. Just an impulse buy.
Now I'm thinking it would be nice to actually design something that will work with them but they aren't very common.
I had no joy finding a datasheet, google threw me a couple of links but they wouldn't display properly (ok, maybe that might be my browser).
I would love to know if anybody here has knowledge and / or experience with these at all. Has anybody managed a decent result using these as preamp tubes? Does anyone have a datasheet for them that they wouldn't mind sharing?
Taking a different path, I wonder if you would make a single tube stand-alone spring line reverb? Use the pentode for the driver and the triode for recovery? The triode's gain is a bit low but you can drive the tank harder with the pentode to compensate.

These tubes were used in a lot of the cheap/inexpensive "portable" record players of the day, often just mono.
