So we could use a Thermistor, PTC, not NTC, for this exact purpose, with a volt meter or Zener and LED across it to show when the voltage drop exceeds a certain voltage? I'm sure the specs would need to fit certain requirements, but seems possible at first glance.

That would explain the RCA 12ax7s next to the instant coffee.

Yes, but will $3 buy a 60/100W very low inertia optical indicator plug in PTC resistor of the proper value at Mouser?

Well, not exactly 12AX7 which by the way were an almost unused tube (except in guitar and some Hi Fi preamps, in all less than 1% of total market) but I grew up wading through pick them yourself baskets full of NOS tubes to get inside Electronics shops.

I think the halogen bulbs are still legal, just a more efficient form of incandescent lamp.

If you used a 117N7 you could set up an audible report signal

Or how about a 120V/100W heating element? If it's burning the crap out of you, you may have a short

Just wrap a slice of bacon around it, so now you have a Nose-O-Meter checking shorts.

Shorting the amp on purpose to collect the prize is considered cheating

No, seriously, problem with any kind of heaters is that they have way too much mass and take long to get red hot.
Besides they will never ever work at such a high temperature as a Tungsten lamp filament (2700K), some 4400 Fahrenheit

And lightbulbīs minimal mass makes it VERY fast.

Where did I pick the 2700K number from?

Why, itīs right there, printed on the lamp itself (or its cardbard box).

The decorator bulbs are still available too. They come in sizes up to 60w (I believe that's all the higher they go) and you can still get something like 60 watt FLOD lights that are incandescent. I've got a boatload of the regular ones so I'm stocked up for this century. Mike.

Looking at the 'mood & effects' column on that box, you'd think they were selling vacuum tubes.

Well what would you call a light bulb in tube speak? An onode? An alphode?

                                A lamp.

                                A heater without a cause.
