    ...i have a heyboer 18 watt tranny that i'm using with 6V6's. I think i should be using the 4 ohm tap with my 8 ohm speaker, yes? I hope i'm wrong and it's the other way around because the OT has no 4 ohm tap, only 8 and 16 and i'm using the 8. I want it to be as loud and clean as possible.

    I would not thinks.
    If the 18W was tranny was intended for EL84 then it will suit 6V6 as is.
    Just use the 8 Ohm tap.

      18 watt OTs are usually an 8k primary, though I seem to remember noticing some at 6k6.
      With either EL84 or 6V6, I think that the max clean power output would be achieved with the intended load connected to the OT secondary, eg 8 ohm cab to 8 ohm tap.
      You may prefer the clean and overdriven tone with a mismatch though, and at a reasonable HT, 6V6 will likely be fine with that.
