  • Cobble PT = 265-0-265 What to do with that?

I connected an EZ81's 6.3v heaters and the CT secondary's outside leads and read 242VDC on pin 3.
    ...no load.
Seems funny because the PT's ac at secondary is 265-0-265.
So far I just have the PS section before any resistors or caps wired.
IEC: I and C to the two PT primary leads, E to ground lug on chassis.
Secondary HV to pins 1 and 7, CT to ground/chassis.
Secondary has two 6.3v outputs, I chose the yellow one with the long enough wires, the other is green wires.
With this large PT I'm 1/2 hoping to attain very small volume output along the lines of 2watts or so, then do something for the preamp.
Simple output tube driver seems in order for this, so that perhaps it will be compatible with added gain stages via tube or other for more or less preamp.

So without a filter cap your DC is a raw pulsing thing that averages the 242vDC your meter reads. Slap just about any filter cap across that and it will go up a good 100VDC, provided of course the cap can handle the voltage.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

I have a 400v / 150uf, but I remember reading how larger filter cap puts a load on the rectifier tube [IIRC it was don't exceed 32uf with a 5Y3]...should I find a smaller value to be safe for use with the EZ81 /6CA4 ?
