I have been recently cooking up some ideas for a bassman 135 style amp I have. I like the idea of having as many options as possible so I can experiment with it to dial in a tone in it. I have been reading "the ultimate tone" series quite a bit and have been looking at class operation switching on the power tubes with different types of output tubes. My ideal set up would allow either 6l6 or 6v6 in both fixed bias class AB and cathode biased with a cathode cap to get some ac30 style sound. of course this is going to also feature a presence control with a feedback loop delete switch. I was wondering what options I should consider for an output tranny. Should I fudge the numbers and find something that would be correct in the ball park or should I try to find something with multiple primary taps to accomidate all the options exactly. I just having seen what solutions amps with these features have used yet. thanks for any replies.
