Anyone know if this is a good MOV for tube amps power transformer protection?

The thing about MOV's is that they degrade every time they take a 'hit'.

If you're nned spike protection, you can use a cap.

... or a good bipolar tranzorb (Google TVS protection and read the application notes on sizing for your local voltage)

      Vishay makes some nice parts.

      Hope this helps!

guys, I appreciate the advice and will definitely look into those bipolar tranzorbs (funny name), but will the mouser part i listed suffice? i have a bunch and need something quick for temporary fix.

According to the Selection Guide, this is not a good choice. You need an MOV good for at least 170V.

Hey, wait - the datasheet says your part number is OK to 200V (suitable for 120VAC), but the Mouser description says 130VAC ... I guess your choice was good in the first case.

          Sorry for the confusion.
