  • Please comment this amp design...

I got this schematic from a friend and my knowledge about these stuff is not good enough to give him any good info about that. The designer died, so isn't available for any comment.
So the big question is,... would that design work, is it any good, would it sound good?

Looks to be a high powered AC30 topology, with a modded tone control section.
If you like the sound of an old Vox then it may be good.
My concern would be that as they only sound good when driven hard, increasing the power output just makes it harder to overdrive.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking AC30 also. You have the "cut" or "brilliance" (depending on whose nomenclature you like) control across the phase splitter like the vox. It's a cathode-biased quad 6L6 which is switchable for 2 or 4 tube operation, and cathode follower-driven Baxandall tone control, which is UNLIKE Vox. More like Ampeg, Jim Kelley, etc.

This amp is not a fire-breathing monster, but probably has good bandwidth, fidelity and transient response. Just looking at the design, it might actually make a better bass amp than guitar amp, due to it's clean design and stiff power supply. Where the HELL did the design find 64uF/500V caps???

Reminds me of a hot rodded 4x6l6 Silvertone amp with cathode biasing.

I imagine those 64uF 500V caps would have been most likely implemented as 32 * 32uF dual section caps wired up in parallel. There are several companies offering this value in a dual section cap including JJ and F&T.
