  • Direct/preamp out schematic?

I wanna use my amp for reading purposes without using a mic. Could anybody guide me or direct me to a schematic for a preamp out or direct out?

What amp are we talking about? Do you want to be able to record the output directly, or will you use external speaker simulation etc?

Tube amp or solid state? Do you want to capture the sound of the poweramp or do you want to take the signal from the preamp?

If you're recording direct without any further processing added you will need speaker simulation circuitry.

The easiest way is to simply buy a guitar DI box with speaker simulation, e.g the Behringer GI-100.

Here's a schematic for a DIY speaker simulator:

If it's a tube amp, you will need a dummy load, otherwise you risk breaking the output transformer. Get a power resistor that can handle at least twice the rated power of the amp. It should have the same resistance as the output impedance of the amp (e.g. 8 ohms for an 8 ohm speaker output). Make sure you mount it to a chassis to provide for adequate cooling.
