  • Driving 6L6s into clipping

What should I pay attention to if I want to really drive 2x6l6s into clipping? I know that Vox heavily drives their el84, and Im curious as to how 6L6s can be heavily driven

Make sure your PI can deliver undistorted signal because in most cases it starts clipping way before the power tubes /if at all/.

Some amps use a gain stage for each half of the signal after the phase inverter, something like a 12au7 6sn7 6cg7, using half of the tube for each respective half of the signal. Plenty of drive then
Sometimes I'm good, then I'm bad..

Well, gain stage after the PI, cathode follower DC coupled and class AB2, that starts to be able to drive 6L6
