  • Very little sound

I built a 3 gain stage amp into a 4 gain stage by modding the CF tone stack. This is a one off build that I am having fun with. Problem is I have minimal to virtually no sound. I narrowed down the culprit by I would like to know what I did wrong. Here is the schematic

Notice the 4th stage Pin 8 and 6 voltages. The tube would be turned off with that bias. All resistors check out and everything is proper. Am I missing something? Help

You should be getting early/mid 200s voltage-wise on that plate. For some reason the triode is drawing 3-4 times the current that it would normally. I know you say that "everything is proper" but you are actually measuring 370v feeding the plate resistor? You have tried a different 12AX7 (bad triode)? The cathode resistor is properly grounded? No chance of any shorts at the tube side of the plate resistor/plate wire to socket?

I cant believe it. Maybe that is why I didnt check it. But the brand new JJ preamp tube was bad. I put another one in and whammo. This amp has got gobs of gain and distortion. Now I will be fine tuning. The gain is tremendous. The tone is rather good. I just need to get the gain down a bit so I can use all of the gain knob. I am sure you will see another thread soon.
      Thanks MWJB
