  • question about Triad R-11A power transformer

    Hi-

It's my first post here - tube electronics is new to me. I bought a Triad R-11A power transformer and was wondering what Fender (or other) style amp could I build with this? The primary is 115 volts 60CPS. The three secondaries are as follows: 700 volts at 90ma DC center tapped. 6.3 volts at 3.5 amps center tapped. 5 volts at 3 amps not center tapped.

    Thanks-
    John

It must be old. CPS means "cycles per second" meaning the ferquency of the power mains. This has been called "Hertz" for many many years now. And today 120VAC is the common standard, and many folks have even higher vpltage in their walls. The standard has not been 115VAC for many years as well. All that is not to say the transformer won't work, it will work just fine, but all the secondary voltages will be a gew percent higher than spec.

A smallish amp would work. The 6v winding will handle a couple power tubes and 3-4 preamp tubes at least. The 5v winding will power a rectifier tube if you want to use one.
