  • too much preamp signal??

Well, maybe this question is too broad, but if you are still getting sound(a teeny tiny bit) with the volume at '0' is this a result of too much signal? Pretty straightforward circuit. 2 gain stages, tone and volume, LTPI, 2x6L6 biased fiarly hot. Im in 'cranked' zone at about level 4.

No, it is a matter of either crosstalk, or a volume pot that doesn't actually go all the way to zero ohms at the bottom end. Most likely both things happening.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Maybe if your vol pot is one that dumps all the signal to ground, then it must be crosstalk

When you slowly turn the volume up from zero does the sound level quickly
go down to zero before climbing back up normally ?
