  • 2E26 - Great NOS experimenter tube for cheap!

    Howdy Folks,

I was - again - going through the tube stock trying to figure out what to sell, what I'll ever use, and "the rest" and I came across a neat little octal bottle more or less the size of a 6V6 with a plate cap. But what caught my eye was the ruggedized black plate with some extra dissipation area within the bottle as well as the metal base shell and micalox (brown) base - again an attractive tube. Then when I checked the specs of the 2E22 I found out that you could get 52 watts out of a pair if you didn't mind pushing a little grid current (AB2) despite a listed plate dissipation of only 10 watts! But the kicker was when I checked AES a few minutes ago and found out that they were selling for only $4.50 each!

Anyone who's noticed my pontificating over the years knows I rant about the "boring ghetto" of 12A-7s, 6L/V6s, and EL3/84s and I'm always looking for an interesting bottle so the 2E26 is my pick of the day. I'm gonna grab a few more and stick 'em in the next higher power design I cobble up (right now I've got a couple of 10-20 w ones to finish - using "line connected" tubes with high voltage filaments and a separate B supply tranny) - the funny thing is that the plate caps for the tubes will almost cost as much as these great little bottles do a current prices. Bet you had to pay a pretty penny for them when they were new. The specs are at Duncan's site if yer interested.

Oooop - make that 42 watts CCS - you can go up to 54 intermittent.
