    I read somewhere that Larry Carlton used a 5E3 with his ES335 on the Kid Charlemagne solo. Not sure if it was doctored or not.

      And just as important, what does it FEEL like? It's all about tone and feel. An amp has to make the player want to play more, to inspire the player and make him/her feel like it's all effortless. Of course, these criteria vary from player-to-player, which is what keeps us all in business.

      Lest we forget that there are many times when just shifting to another brand and/or type of tube or speaker is a sufficient "mod". This is where real-world experience comes in and you need to move away from the drawing board and techno-babble.
