im building a blackface princeton rev, im using chassis pics from ebay as a general guide. i have pics of a 64 and 66. i noticed they used ceramic caps in some places. poly in others and of course the big blue caps. i plan to replicate this arrangement using mallory 150's in place of the blue caps. i wonder if cost determins which caps go where? i beleive the blue caps are the heart of fender tone.

But the Mallory's are yellow... I guess you could wrap them in heat shrink, but you would probably melt them in the process.
Seriously though, I think I follow your question here. There can be (minor) tonal differences between types of caps. For the most part when rebuilding a bf Fender I leave the coupling caps alone, unless there is a problem with them, such as leakage, a dead short or a broken lead. Coupling cap problems are very rare in the bf era (and beyond) Fenders. I think the Mallory 150's or most any polyester/mylar type cap will work fine. The ceramics were mainly used in the smaller value caps and I personally don't find any advantage in changing them to another type. Since you are building your own amp you can use your ears to determine what works best for you. Don't depend on other's opinions for your tone, not even mine.
