  • Mesa MK series schemes, inaccuracies, anybody know?

    Hey,
Does anybody know what the inaccuracies in the mesa MK series schems are? I know they exist, but looking at all of them, MKIIC+ MKIII MKIV, Triaxis etc. they all seem pretty uniform. 5 gain stages, plate driven eq off of the first stage, colder biased 4th stage. interupt style fx loop, really high plate voltages. If I had to guess, it would probably be the coupling caps, but does anyone know for sure? probably wont build one anytime soon, just curious.

I repaired an old MKIIC+ but never gave it any thought about looking at the coupling caps or anything else for that matter. Just the power amp end and it checked out. Wish I thought about it then. I did play the thing and it sounded to me just like how the schematic was drawn out. But that is just an assumption. What makes the MK's shine is that 5 band eq at the end of the preamp. Played Mesa studio pre the other day too. Both were muddy to me with out that eq. Awesome cleans though.

yeah, there is nothing in the scheme that makes it look like it sounds any different than it does to me either, but I have heard that the schemes are flawed from many different sources, so I thought I would ask. I think alot of people are aware of the magic of that inductor based e.q. Mesa probably has those custom wound seeing as I can't think of a vendor that sells suitable inductors small scale for something like that, and I heard IC based graphic e.q.s are just not the same

Mesas are a work in progress. Every now and then they take a snap shot and call it a new model. It isn't like all MArk 2 are identical and then all Mark2C are identical, etc. There will be departures from the printed schematic that are not really errors, but rather variants. Ther might be errors too, but if the print says 100k and the amp has 220k somewhere, the print might not be in error. it might just be a change.

I've found them to be 99% right on.
