Returning to the topic of this old Photopot thread, I have been fretting over the fact that Cadmium is a banned substance in RoHS-compliant goods. (Lead Sulfide and Indium Arsenide have similar RoHS issues).
A bit of googling turned up polyvinylcarbazole (PVK) as a potential replacement technology.
PVK has photoresistive (ldr) effects, but it also exhibits photovoltaic behavior (solar cell).
Would any chemists or physicists care to weigh in on suitability of PVK in a photoresistor application, in view of CdS becoming a no-no?
