Later replaced by zinc plating, which was original bluish silver surface, later they invented a further "passivating" bath which made it take a reddish golden hue, quite similar to chromate, but environmentally safer.
Here stacked raw frames, both types :
Then 2 of my speakers, left one passivated "blue" the right one passivated ersatz "chromate type" .
Lately I use bluish silver finish, simply because Customers associate that with Celestion which uses the same, hence "quality"
Oh well.
Fact simply is that bluish white zinc is the *cheapest* steel finish available, period
