  • Fromel Blues DeVille mod question

I am installing a Fromel mod kit on a Blues DeVille reissue. I have already founs a couple of mistakes or omissions such as replace these 3 100K resistors with 3 included 100K resistors. not instructed as such, just what it ended up being.

Instructions offer the following options for the volume pot replacement.

"You have two options. Either install the 100k audio pot
where the master volume was to get more controllable volume
on the Drive channel only, or move the Volume pot to the
Master Volume spot and install the 100k audio pot in Volume to
get more controllable and more bedroom level friendly volume
from the clean channel as well as more controllable volume in the drive channel"

Now, can see how replacing the stock A250K volume pot with a A100K pot can help with the ridiculous jump in volume from 1 - 2 on these amps, but how does replacing the stock B100KB master pot with the old A250K clean volume pot accomplish the same thing?

It's weird, because it WAS working fine.....

On an audio taper pot the resistance comes on slower, usually they will be at 10-15% of the resistance at the midpoint instead of 50%. So a 250k audio taper pot will be 25-32k at midpoint compared to 50k for a 100k linear pot.

Perhaps academically, but note that those two pots are set up for somewhat different operation. The volume pot is only acitng as a variable resistor, which is in parallel with R52, that parallel combination being a voltage divider with R9. On the master volume that pot is basically acting as a voltage divider all on its own.

So, can we say this swap is justified?
