Played some more and actually i was able to get the clean sounds back in large part because the amp has so much control between the variable NFB, presence and treble cap switch. I also changed the gain bleed cap earlier so i changed that partially back to where it was. I think the cleans are pretty darn good now, maybe as good. The pedal boost doesn't seem great still tho. Better but not great. Thats ok tho because it's not real important to me and is good enough as is. I set it back to how it was at V2 to see and i like it better with your tweaks. It doesn't quite get that classic rock thing the same as before but thats because the EQ curve is now better balanced. I can probably change the tone settings and get that back because it was really not a sound you would want all the time. Flawed really, but so are a lot of classic rock tracks but it;s what makes them what they are.

So you should go ahead and try reversing just these two things (change 220k at the second HP filter back the the 470k value and remove the 220k grid stop). If the amp gets too bright (I don't think it will, but...) we may need to adjust something. Youre clipped tone will be slightly more asymmetrical, but not so much as it was before these last mods. Whenever I experiment with clipping symmetry I often can't decide if I like it more or less so. They both sound good for different reasons.

Well take to practice like this then. See if if sounds more like the amp is 'getting under the notes' as it were. Nothing makes an amp sound better to me than hearing it define itself well in a mix."Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

Ok, i think i've heard enough to know this is good. been dialing in different guitars and because the voicing is now much more balanced the controls are more useful and i'm able to really get a well balance sound with any of my guitars. I like it. Don't believe i'm going to change anything else aside from trying a different mid cap to see if i can lower the mid center. But thats just icing and if it doesn't work, no problem. Gonna make the changes permanent as opposed to parts and leads flying all over the place tacked together with solder blobs that have been re-flowed a million times ! I wish you could see it but on the other hand i don't because it's downright embarrassing. LOL. Thanks Chuck.
