With respect to the choke and the logistics of the power rail ? I ask because initially this was a el34 build that i changed to 6V with a trainwreck style 30w OT. But i left the 20H choke and the rest as it was. Does anything look like improvement is needed? I don't see 6V6 amps with chokes, at least none i looked at. Is it worth leaving there or might 6V6's be better off w/o a choke? What would you do with the power rail for the outputs. Would you configure it differently? Like i said it was initially a el34 amp and i don't think i changed anything when i went to 6V6 except of course the bias range and the OT.

I've seen plenty of 6V6 amps with chokes - most commonly the Deluxe Reverb, but also with boutique amps - Victoria, Tone king and the like (mainly DR derived circuits, though). If it sounds OK, I'd leave it as it is. Otherwise you could A-B compare the sound of the choke with a fixed resistor - the choke has a subtly different dynamic compared to a resistor - especially at higher output levels.

I hope you at least double load impedance.

Not so much concerned with plate voltage as with plate and screen dissipation at medium output, where dissipation typically has a maximum.
But if your PT is smaller than the original giving some sag and OT primary impedance is around 6.6k, things should be ok.
Regarding the choke:
A choke typically gives better ripple suppression and drops less voltage than a resistor.Last edited by Helmholtz; 09-21-2022, 06:01 PM.- Own Opinions Only -
