It gets a little less gain than the 12AX7 but the tone is stellar. It works great as V1 or as a phase inverter for example. To my ears they have less upper fizz than a 12AX7 does and it really adds to a circuit. YMMV of course as we all hear differently and are looking for different tones, but I'd say get one and try it. You might like it.
