  • Duplicate a transformer?

I have a "salvage" OT that I would like to recreate. I have two of them, so if one had to be destroyed as a result of reverse engineering it it would be sad but acceptible. Details may be important. I don't know, I'm not a transformer engineer, so I'd like to get it as close as possible. ie: materials, interleaves, wire guage etc. That way I'm more likely to get the result I'm after. I'm sure plenty of MFGs could give me a similar OT, or a somewhat modified OT from their basic designs made to be "more like" my OT. But can anyone actually duplicate an OT?

    TIA for any suggestions.

Most go directly to EMC, Heyboer, or Mercury Magnetics for teardown blueprinting. (I assume you're going to want a number of them over time.)

        Yes...Hopefully.

I contacted MM and they said they have two ways of doing it. The first way is to examine the transformer to try and determine the materials, wire guage, interleaves, etc. Then they make a duplicate based on that info and intuition. The other way involves tearing apart the original to get the most accurate info.

I havent checked with EMC or Heyboer yet. But I would guess their practices to be similar. If anyone has experience with any companies for custom transformers, I'd like to get some opinions.

        Thanks
