  • no-heat regulators

Happened across the TSR-1 series of 78XX drop in replacements. They are 1 amp buck converter type, but also available in 2 amp (TSR-2). https://www.tracopower.com/series/tsr-1
I thought they might be useful (within current limits) for DC heaters, dropping B+, and VVR power reduction.
There are probably pros and cons for each application, so I thought I would put it here for discussion.
    datasheet attached.

Datasheet says they need external EMI filtering.

Ok, so checking that, it says that external EMI filter is needed to meet (EN55032) 'class A', which is for commercial and industrial use.
I've attached the file for their suggested filter.
edit: class B (home use) seems even more restrictive but is not mentioned in the datasheet

My fist thought is a concern about radiated noise that will be picked up by other circuitry in the amp. The best way to determine if that will be a problem would seem to be to acquire one and hook it up with a load inside an amp chassis.

I bought some Traco's off Ebay! It was their lowest noise version (<30mV RMS) and produced +/-15VDC for Op amp rails (I thought) and very cheap

They were factory seconds and I soon found out why; their leads had been cut through maybe 90% during mfg and they fell off when I touched them so I never got to use them. Mine were 495-TVN3-0923's, $40 at Mouser

Instead I use old linear regulators in a TO220 FP (full pack) for buck applications, as they are electrically isolated (the NJM78 series at Digikey) and just need 2 caps to be very clean
