Looks to have similar structure and magnet size as a Jensen p15q. Which would have been the competition at the time? Your magnet looks smaller than the p15n. I think the vintage p15q was a 25W speaker. So I wouldn't push them harder than 25W.

EDIT: In fact... Because of their age (brittleness or degradation of older adhesives or any delamination of paper fiber) I probably wouldn't push them past about 15W.

Yep, last photo shows the structure we associate with alnico mags. Nice find on these old Emmies! Agree that they'd best be put to use with a low power amp, so you can get everything it's turning out in the bass region. 15's makes 'em sound big and nice! No idea what size amp Wurlitzer ran on them but late 60's it was probably solid state, and may have had a built in limiter to keep juke entertainment volume out of the ear-breaking - and speaker breaking - zone. I'm guessing something like 20 ish watts a channel. Loud enough for the diner or bar it was in probably.

Cool, thanks all! Keeping them for some single-ended amps in the future. Having played my Vibro-Champ through my 2x15" got me hooked for life. Low power, big efficient speakers & lots of them. Maybe I'll rig one up today & give it a try.

When I'm posting pics, do I need to click the "Insert" option & then pick a size (thumbnail small etc.)? I think for 2 I did but the others I didn't. I'm still figuring my way around a bit after a bit of an absence.

You don't have to pick a size, it will do it for you.
I always have the 'advanced editor' toolbar open. Then, wherever you want to insert the image, click on the toolbar picture icon called 'image'. Click the 'upload' tab and upload your pic. You MUST then click 'send it to the server'. Once that is done you don't have to pick a size, just click 'ok'. Even if it looks too big, it will resize once you post it.

My opinion, one of the reasons 70's Traynor amps never grew as big as the BIG names, Marsland speakers? I know a lot of these were swapped out.

Traynor had an amp called Bass Mate or YBA2. The amp used a pair of 6V6s and the combo version had one of those 15s. It sounded very cool for guitar.

Well, I stuck these one at a time in my old Roland KC cab that's housed my Weber Bass speaker for years. Not an "ideal" test cab by any means but after trying these with my little 2x6V6 crunchblaster, I think I'll keep these for sure! Very punchy, warm... I might revoice the amp for better treble; I was using some crappy stereo speakers with it before & took a bunch of highs out. Definitely some very jazzy speakers; I bet an old Ampeg would love them.

Was looking at getting a RawCabs cab from the evilbay. Has anyone used them recently? I am not exactly the greatest woodworker, what with my tiny house & all...

Haven't used them due to high shipping on east coast but used TRM cabinets, he'll make you whatever you want.

Ooh, thanks, I'll check them out. I know Mojo is literally right down the road from me, but I don't think they sell unfinished cabs. Though I'll quote Enzo - "a phone call wouldn't hurt..."

Edit - mozz I think a friend of mine may have ordered one of those TRM cabs a while back; either way, looks great, & price is good too.

Summing up:

* Eminence speaker (67 code) made in ´75

* Horseshoe Alnico

* Measure visible Alnico slug diameter, no need (or practical) to insert a caliper through the side window but any cheap plastic ruler or measuring tape will do.

Voice coil will have slightly larger diameter than slug so an around 30mm slug means a 1.25"/32mm/Q size coil, an around 36mm one will indicate a 1.5"/38mm/N size coil.

* Power handling would be the same as an equivalent Q or N Jensen.

*Some* Music Man speakers used this same horseshoe construction (although it is inefficient) in high power 2" diameter voice coil speakers, early Ampeg SVT speakers did the same, do not expect that here.

In my book that size motor (coil + magnet) is proper for a 12" speaker, and undersized for a 15" one, but it being a Wurlitzer jukebox , typical user loved "Bass!!! LOTS of Bass!!!!" so they fit a 15" there.
Which provided lots of ugly thumpy boxy single note fake Bass, but hey .... "Customer is always right" and they "voted with their wallet"

How can you hear the scratches without highs ?
