I've never tried to play any Hendrix, but it's interesting how this guy uses his thumb to finger the bottom string. I guess I never noticed that before."I took a photo of my ohm meter... It didn't help." Enzo 8/20/22

Unfortunately my hands are too small, so I need to do barre fingering.
I just love those "Axis" sounds!
Never heard any amp sound that close.- Own Opinions Only -

My hands are quite large, so it wouldn't be tough to do. I just can't believe I never noticed this before. I feel kind of stupid, actually. But, at least I learned something today."I took a photo of my ohm meter... It didn't help." Enzo 8/20/22

There are some fantastic Hendrix interpreters in Deutschland, one of my favorites being Uli Roth!
Uli loves Jimi so much he bought his hat for $47k, lived in the same house in France and had Monika Dannemann as a girlfriend and paint the covers for his first 3 solo albums.
Jimi also used old Orange amps for a cleaner than Marshall sound but few prefer these to the old Marshalls.Reportedly Axis was a very much a studio creation with only 2 songs done "live".
These amps werent magical, just what a genius had to use at the time IMO. They did have an interesting PI though...

Since the late 60s I have been chasing the sound heard in the video above.
None of my 60s Marshalls or Fenders can give me that special quasi-clean "Axis"sound.
I've never heard any Hendrix interpreter get even close. Not even Julijan Eric (the player in the vid) when using his Marshall.
SRV had a great sound when covering "Little Wing" - but way different from the original.
I can dial in SRV's sound with a Vibroverb or a Super Reverb.
I've seen Hendrix live twice, but his live sound typically was too fuzzy for me.
Would be interested in seeing a schematic of that early ('67) Sound City "One Hundred" having a master volume instead of a presence control.Last edited by Helmholtz; 04-01-2025, 08:33 PM.- Own Opinions Only -

That preamp schematic (https://hiwatt.org/Schematics/SC105.pdf) looks much closer than that of the Sound City 100 Mk2.- Own Opinions Only -
