    Vox vintage amps online register

    I was just sitting and thinking.....

    Everyone knows dating Vox amplifiers is tricky, as the company suffered from many changes of ownership, and their premises ( together with all the documents ) were destroyed by a fire in 1967, so no "official" document exist at this moment to help Vox owners and collectors dating their amps.

    So....wouldn't it be wonderful to create an online "Vox amps register"?

    Vox owners and collectors could contribute ( I would ) adding their amps' specs, details ( like inner markings, signatures, inspection tags, pot codes etc. ) and S/N and this would be a great resource to help people dating their amps and to shed some light on the company's story....

    Or....does such a thing already exist ?

      If I want the age of an amp, I usually just look at the date codes on the pots, transformers, filter caps, and other large items.
      Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

        That would be good only for a rough dating, because pots and other large components were ( and still are ) bought by manufacturers in HUGE quantities, and then used over a period of time ( I own a fully original Fender 1969 Competition Mustang, and the pot codes read 1967 ). The best thing would be to cross check all the features and the S/N ( with Fender and Gibson this is possible ) but as I said the Vox original factory register has been destroyed, so dating is more tricky....

        This is why I was thinking about an online register, if well built it would allow most Vox owners to date their beauties without opening their amps or worse pulling down the speakers with the risk of ruining'em. Only one problem.....I'm not a PC guy, I spend most of my time programming PLCs, so I don' t have a clue on how to do it, but I' ll take a look at the Tokai register, as per Peter's advice.
