  • Champ Question

Ok, please allow me to start the year off with what may be a stupid question, but are the Champ clones generally the same circuit as the Champs and Vibro champs of the 60's and 70's?
I've noted that some clones have a tone circuit and some don't and just wanted to know if these clones would sound the same as my 70's Champ before I buy one online that I cannot try in advance.
    Thanks!

The older Tweed Champs had no tone control. The BF and SF had the tone controls.

It depends on what circuit you build it to. If you go with the original styles, it won't have tone, but if you get a blackface or silver face circuit, you will have tone. Check AmpWares for schematics. Studying them is a good thing.

As a new-ish member these things can happen. But your a necromancer. Four year old post from an OP with only 16 posts. OldFarb is long gone and will never see this.

And since when is a BF or SF champ more tone-ful than a 5F1!?!

I'm thinking he just meant it won't have tone control..... not simply tone.

                'twanger,
Thanks for the response. I get a lot of info from old threads around here, but I'll never see this...
Actually I'm a lurker and learner, don't post much. Just happened to be subscribed to this thread!

Big smile on my egg covered face! Very sorry for "writing you off" there OldFarb. FWIW this is the first time I've seen anything like this.

Everyone needs a pastime. If "lurking" and then "rising from the dead" to scare the hell out of me is your thing, well, I guess that's alright.

I know what it meant.. if you were so smart, you would realize that YOU are the one extending this thread.. conjuring up the spirits of the dead.. BTW.. who is to say I am NOT one of those spirits coming back to haunt you?
