  • 1956 Tweed Twin, unwanted noise

I also have a 1955 2 5y3 rectified Fender Twin. The channel 2 bright channel works great, the channel 1 brt/normal and channel 2 norm inputs produce a crackling noise on top of the output of the guitar. Would this be a leaky cap, dirty input jack, any ideas on the first place to look?

    Thanks!

If you have a good sound on the ch.2 bright, but noise on ch.2 norm, the problem is in the jack or the resistor on the jack. make sure the tip of the plug is not coming in contact with the resistors mounted on the jack, the jack can get turned and move the resistors in the way. Also, if the ch.2 bright jack switch is dirty or corroded, it could cause noise when the norm input is being used.

Could be a noisy plate load resistor. Change the 100k resistors, you can still get the Carbon Comp 1/2 watt resistors and it will look and sound correct. I would not use Metal film either if you are concerned with the vintage appeal. Actually, They are not much quieter and don't handle the voltage surges as well either.

Swap tubes, V1 & V2 and see if anything changes.
