  • Ampeg V3

    Hi,
I just got an Ampeg V3 for a song, and I love the tone of it. I want to check it over, probably give it a cap job, but I can't find a schematic. I think it's the early 80's, Made-In-Japan species, tube complement is 4 7025's, 1 12at7, and 2 6550 tubes, the later being original GE. 16 ohm Celestion G12-65 speaker in the thing, and it sounds absolutely gorgeous (and is loud as hell). Harmony Central reviews indicate that schematics are not commonly available, but if anyone has one squirreled away, or has general tips for dealing with these amps (I'm not new to glowing glass, but I haven't had the dubious pleasure of working on an Ampeg), I'm all ears. Thanks for any thoughts.
    Take Care,
    Carl Tappan

        Tried that

I, too, googled it as a first impulse; unfortunately, the amp is a different beast entirely. Mine has no rectifier tube, 6550 power tubes, and it doesn't have the tetrode phase inverter. Plus it only has 1 set of inputs. Again, I think it's a later model than the schematics imply. Thanks anyway, tho

I think you have the same V3 model as me. Here are some pictures:

It's an incredible amp. I too am looking for information on it.
          Hopefully we get some.

That's the one! You're pretty brave, putting an extension cab on the sucker; I don't know if my windows would survive that.

I too have the made in japan V3. Cannot find a schematic anywhere for this 6550 outfitted amp..
i just joined this post, so I'm not how to contact the other owners here. If any Japonese V3 owner with info. can contact me while logged on, please do so.

Hi lbanks, welcome to the forum.

That is the drawing for the old original 1970s era V3. Note the 7027 outputs and the rectifier tube. The one he wants is for a 1980s era version with 6550 outputs and solid state rectifiers.
