  • Old melody amp 2 x 6

    HELLO,

I RECENTLY PICKED UP THIS OLD MELODY AMP FROM EbAY.
CANT FIND ANYTHING ON IT, ONLY PEOPLE INQUIRING AS MYSELF.
NOTHING ON GOOGLE , NOT EVEN GERALD WEBER.
I FOUND A SITE THAT HAS A FEW FOR SALE. THATS IT.
    PLEASE HELP.

What do you need to know? if you need a schematic, you should be able to draw one from the amp. If you need to know power output, one can infer that from the power supply asnd output tube complement.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Sorry for the yelling, didn't mean to. Any how. The tube compliment is
right to left 2-12au7, 2-12ax7, and 2-6aq5, I have pulled the data sheets for them. I am confused since I found out what i think it is aTeisco 72-R from the Larry McNally website. In comparing his 72-C to mine, my amp has one less tube and none are 6av6's. It doesn't appear to have been modified, as I will have to clean all the bug crap out myself. It has 3 separate pcb sections, one for reverb, one tremelo, and one output, and I kind of suspect that the tubes are in the wrong places since I can turn it on and hear the speaker hum, yet nothing from a guitar plugged in. Correct me if I am wrong but would there be a 12au7 and 12ax7 in each section rv and trem? By site I can see I have one bad cap on the output board and the filter caps need resoldered to the pcb. I am a newby to amp repair so I am a little leary of just tearing into it yet without taking pictures of everything first. I don't know if that helps.

I'm pretty sure I have that same amp, and you're the first person I've found that has even heard of it. Although I'm afraid to say I don't know any more about it than you. I got it from my uncle and he got it used too, so I can't really trace it back.

My power-amp tubes are 6AQ5A like yours, but the other 4 are 12AU7 (one of them is a 12AU7A) It's pretty clear my tubes have been replaced (one if them is a newer Ratheon while the rest are NEC) so I have no idea if therse are even the right tubes. I get sound out, but it's fairly quiet and there's a lot of crackling (I suspect a bad tube). I read online that 2 6AQ5A put out about 10W, and I guess that seems right volume-wise.

I'm pretty good with solid state amps and I understand electronics and schematics fine, but tubes are somewhat new to me. I've been thinking of using this as a preamp to drive a solid state power amp and replacing the speakers. I don't have the time at the moment to take it all apart and trace out a schemaic but I imagine I will sooner or later.

I'd appreciate any advice or info anyone has. Thanks.
