  • Univox amps...

Hi there. I wanted to inquire about the old 60s Univox amps. In particular, a
'65 Univox U-75 2x10 combo I just received from an ebay seller.

Unfortunately, when I received the amp it was in not so good shape, although the auction claimed it to be in "perfect working order". Not so much. The speaker baffle was detached from the cabinet, the tone knob was missing, the rectifer tube pins were broken off, after finally getting some sound the tone control did not function properly due to the fact that one of the tone caps was completely disconnected!, and the footswitch is not present as it was supposed to be. Yea, I was/am pissed! And the guy claimed that a professional tech went through the amp before shipping. He apparently needs to find a different job...

I was able to fix all of the above problems except for the tone cap that is disconnected at one end. It is a 500pf cap coming off of the wiper of the tone control, but Im not sure where it goes, and I dont have a schematic nor can I find one. I had a little bit of luck connecting it to the wiper of the volume control, but the range of tone was reversed with all the highs at '0'
and all the lows at '10'. And naturally with the control being at '0' it sucks some signal. Do we happen to have a Univox U-75 owner out there that can help me with this? Any thoughts would be great

Just a wild guess, but it might go to ground.

SOunds like it got beat up in shipping.

What is the tube complement? Schematic heaven has many Univox drawings, there might be some similar enough to yours to be helpful.
