  • EL34 tube glowing?

I have a Soundcity 120 mark 4. There is a el34 that is glowing orange from the base to the top when it is on. The amp sounds great I am just wondering if this one tube is maybe starting to go or just getting more power then the rest of them, there are 6 el34's in this amp. Any idea's what's up with it

It's likely that the one tube is failing. Swap another tube with that one and see if the problem stays with the tube or the socket.

If it ends up being a socket problem it's more than likely a failed grid swamper on that socket. Is this one of those weird Sound Citys with the combination fixed/cathode bias arrangement?

Jon's right. Also could be the base itself. Recently had a JCM800 showing same problem, changed tube, still the same. Turned out base was tracking between pin outs. New base, hey presto
