hello
I recently put my old black face back in service
but it came back from the shop twice now with a persisting problem
the normal channel sounds like a dream!~~~
but the vibrato channel has a terrible scratchy distortion especially when the the low A string is struck
this noise will bleed over to the normal channel if the vibrato channel volume is up past 4
any help would be most appreciated

I'm not sure your TR is suffering the same condition as the one I recently tinkered with. The one I had was distorting sparky when it was pushed, like you describe yours. I ended up resoldered some connections. And yes, I did some pushing, poking and pulling to see if the wires were interacting with the chassis, capacitance.

This seemed to do it. There was probably a ground connection gone bad.
