    Did you clean the tube pins??? I get wierd stuff and sometimes problem whenever I plug in an old tube without cleaning the pins. They do form an oxide layer that can prevent contact. A brass "toothbrush" works well for fast cleaning.

        Earlier you said that you clipped out some little .002uf capacitors, why did you do that? It sounds like you have an instability problem now, maybe those capacitors were there to prevent that.

          Well maybe but this problem with the PI seems very predictable. I removed them following some instructions to make a "better" sounding guitar amp. Which it helped. However the closer it gets to a guitar amp the more I miss the headroom it used to have.
