  • Reverberocket scratchy pot

    Hi I have a '61 Ampeg R-12-R Reverberocket.
The Reverb pot is really scratchy when turned (tho' it works fine)
I tried replacing the pot but no change.
Also replaced the two caps off pins 5 and 6-no change.

Would a 10K wirewound (instead of original 15K-I can't get 15K wirewound) help?
I'm actually trying to sell the amp but the scratchy pot is really putting people off.

    Any help appreciated
    Cheers

Can you measure DC on the pot?

I'd check for DC at the pot. A leaking coupling cap can put DC onto the pot and cause that noise that won't go away. FWIW, it won't take much DC to get a pot noisey....as little as half a volt will do it.....

Thanks for the feedback. I actually didn't get around to measuring DC- but replaced the pot with a 10K wirewound-and voila- problem solved!
Now I need to figure out if those extra filter caps are really needed as I'm trying to sort my mains hum problem
        Cheers
