haven't been here in a while, but have need now.My Hiwatt dr504 standby switch has failed(always on)....typical bat switch ,it has just 2 soldered contacts(not 4)....my parts bin just has 4 contact arrow's... so i used one and just soldered the 2 lower contacts....but it doesn't work....no sound/doesn't come off standby....can i make the 4 contact arrow work in what is clearly a 2 contact application?...thanks everyone.

Use an ohmmeter as a continuity checker to see which contacts get opened and closed as you operate the switch. Usually on a DPDT switch with four terminals (no center-off), each side is its own circuit (rather than the lower/upper contacts that you described).
Careful - that switch has high voltage on it, even after the amp has been turned off, until the filter caps discharge.

many thx rwood for response....i have been here for a bit(2001) so know the safety rules...anyhow,i had a hunch, and jumpered the 2 unused terminals on the new 4 terminal arrow switch...tested first and standby works....perfect...to summarize, removed the old 2 contact (stuck on on) bat switch...subbed in a nos Arrow 4- contact switch in the standby hole on the amp....connected the 2 "on" contacts(left/right) in place of the old switch....jumpered the 2 unused terminals(left/right)....standby works perfect....have i missed anything?(i arrived at this conclusion by ohms testing the old "stuck on on" switch ,then testing the new switch till i got comparable values, which happened to be with the jumper across the unused terminals)...thx again

Its a dpst switch, so looking at it from the back side, you'd use the center lug and the end lug (on the same side of the switch). You could always use that wiring, but jumper the other set of contacts right over to the set that is wired in. That way you get twice the current capability.

See how there's one angled lug and one straight right next to it? Those are the contacts for that section. Top row is one set, bottom row is the second set.The farmer takes a wife, the barber takes a pole....
