  • Musicman 130 Bias

I have a Musicman 130 head here. One of the ones with transistor PI and cascode O/P stage. I have the service notes for the 65W version. It says to set the voltage across the 3.9R cathode resistors to 25mV. My question: the 130 appears to have exactly the same bias board as th 65.

I'm guessing it would be sensible to double the idle current for the 130. Can anyone suggest any reason why this might be a bad idea?

    Sound logic.
My feeling is that you will not be able to set it too low.
If you have a scope, set the bias voltage at it's highest negative value and try to observe the crossover notch on the output.
(dummy load, signal generator input, 1K sine wave 100 mv)
If the notch is there, increase the bias voltage (less negative) until it disappears.
    No notch, good bias.
