  • 1936 Epiphone Electar Model M

I recently picked this 1936 Epiphone Electar Model M. The original 6N6 "metal can" tubes were shot so I replaced them with 6N6G "coke bottle" tubes. They do work, but the shape of the tube in the tight space causes them to touch and maybe overheat. The schematics for amps this old are sketchy and a buddy thinks its a hybrid of and old Gibson EH-150 and a Epiphone Electar Model M #1707. Does anybody know or think that the more slender 6L6 or even 6V6 tubes will work in this amp? Check out the photos and schematics.

    Cool find!

If it originally had 6N6 tubes, you will not easily get away with installing 6^6 tubes.
Socket, pinout & wiring for one, will have to be changed out.
Not too sure about the plate resistance/ output transformer primary.
    If it works, play it.
How about a thin sheet of teflon between the tubes?
I would be more concerned with the physical contact (vibration) than the temperature.
