  • Which resistor is removed to install mercury choke

    Could someone help me with finding which filter resistor to remove and replace with a mercury choke-- click on attachments to view schematic (i hope its there) thanks for your help----------------------

    According to your schematic, R142, 270R/5W would be the one that is normally replaced with a choke.

      Yup. But the schem differs from typical in that the B+ rail is split at the main filter node. The only thing drawing through the choke would be the power tube screens. So any benefit will be missed by the preamp unless other changes are made.

        Yes I see that now,is there any way to install a choke to work properly? Would there be any benifit at all in having the choke affect the power tube screens only? Thanks

          I would think that the screen supply will benefit the most from the addition of the choke due to the current draw of the output tubes compared to that of the preamp tubes.
