That's confusing. I don't understand why you say "But without the primary disconnected it wouldn't blow anyways?"

    In post #24 you reported
The only things connected now are the two black wires, one going to on/off switch and the other going to fuse. Plugged the amp in again and the fuse blew right away?
When you disconnect the primary the fuse DOES NOT blow. That's what I was expecting but we did that to show that there was no hidden problem in the line input wiring, the switch or the fuse holder that you asked about in post #25.

Based on this evidence I'd say that the transformer is bad. I can't guess why that's so or if it was bad out of the box but it seems to be bad now.

    Sorry,
    Tom

Hey all, sorry to dig up an old post, but I have a couple of questions that pertain to the heater wiring of a 6G2 http://vintagefenderamprepair.com/wp...6G2-Layout.pdf Princeton that I am re-building. I say rebuild because it came to my possession a few years ago with a totally different home-brew circuit(non-functioning)(non-Fender). Luckily, it came with all of the original transformers and assorted hardware. I am close to completion but need some clarity on wiring the heater string.
I have 1 green & red/yellow from PT to ground. I have the other green from PT to the tip of pilot lamp. A string from that connection to pins 2 of 6V6's. (1) does the pilot lamp sleeve connector go to ground? (2) does the heater wire go from pin2 (6V6) to pins 4&5 (12AX7's) 'only'....OR twisted pair to 4,5 and 9?....Pin 9 goes to ground.
My other question is about what type of cap goes between the tone & volume pot? I do not have any .0005 value caps?
Once I receive clarity on these issues I will be very close to buttoning this sucker up.......hopeful;;y.
      Thanks for any help, Rod

If you look at the layout that you linked to, there are triangular arrows that represent connections to the chassis/ground. The sleeve of the pilot lamp need to connect to the chassis as well as pin 7 of the power tubes and pin 9 of the preamp tubes. The green wire from the tip of the pilot lamp will connect to pin 2 of the power tubes and to pins 4&5 of the preamp tubes.

That cap would be replaced with a 470pf cap. A 0.0005uF cap would be the equivalent of a 500pf cap, so the modern value would be a 470pf or a 510pf cap.

Thanks for the clarification, 52 Bill ! I will proceed with confidence on the last bit of wiring. I am doing a vintage accurate rebuild. I can't wait to get this Prince up and running. It has been a 2-part restoration. I did the board work and installed new pots and sockets a few years ago and then it took a back seat. I have decided to complete the project recently. I really hope that all goes well on the first run....
