i have had a U45B sitting around that I'm finally getting to, figured it was the typical replace all the crappy atlas caps and new filter cap type of job. So I went in and replaced them and when I was testing out the amp I noticed that the amp was distorted and the tremolo didn't work. I installed a shorting jack in place of a footswitch and when I turn on the tremolo the tremolo starts then quickly fades to zero. As I was testing voltages I noticed that one side of the OT is dead. Testing resistance between the center tap to one side gives me around 300 ohms, center tap to the other side reads infinity. The OT is pretty small 8 ohms on the secondary and 16K on the primary side.
I thought I'd try using a small OT from an old magnavox chassis I had laying around so I clipped it into the circuit and got good undistorted sound out of the Univox but still no tremolo. I'd love to use the magnavox OT but maybe it is causing the tremolo to malfunction?
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Also does anyone have voltages taken from a working U45B?
Thanks!
Dave
