Marshall changed to PCB from turret boards around '72-73 (except PAs IIRC), so can't be '74. Some of the other screen grid R (which look more original than the white "sand block" type wirewound) have "72" marked on them. The workmanship of the mod looks pretty awful, BTW (geez, look at the soldering iron melted cap in the tone stack...Awful-looking solder joints everywhere.).
Yeah, the power resistor on one of the output tubes date code caught my eye (72/19 on pic.28)...so I'm betting 72-73 with the other observations.
Pic.37 backing it up further (Upper right M728 -where the 2 is VERY faint)
Also have to agree with Juan about the missing serial...that's the ONLY time I've ever seen someone 'cut out' (or deface) a serial number. Rest assured at one point in it's life it was stolen. =(
As far as to "why" worry about date...why not? To me that's like someone not knowing the difference between whether they have a 73 Pontiac LeMans (with lights across the back) or a 74 LeMans (which looked retarded by comparison where the lights wrapped over the sides toward the wheel wells)! Subtle differences are important to some of us lol
Besides the fact that one year can make all the difference in price!
1969 vintage pedal vs 1970....
Start simple...then go deep!
