  • Valco Stage Star - what's this thing worth?

I've been holding onto this amp for over 10 years and hardly ever get around to using it. Figure it's time to sell it, but have no idea what it's worth (if anything). I acquired it in a trade and know next to nothing about it.

What I do know - amp powers up, very loud, sounds great. Exterior is in pretty rough shape. Only 3 of the 4 oval speakers present. I'm unable to test the tremolo circuit as I don't think I have a correct footswitch. I'm not sure if the amp has been partially repaired at some point, as the front has no branding and matches no photos of similar models that I've found online.

I'd appreciate any input you may have on this amp's origins and potential value. If anyone is interested in buying, I can post a video of the amp in use.

    Thanks in advance.

        It IS an old amp.

The few that I saw at Reverb seemed to be asking $2000.

They are asking that, but the listings look to have ended without a sale?

Plus those are nice looking amps, not beaten to a pulp amps with missing speakers and dirt.

I agree, the condition on this amp is making a value determination tough.

If you look at Ebay's completed listings it seems like the medium size Valco amps in decent shape go for $350-800. Parts/project amps are in the $100-250 range. My guess for yours is $200-300. But that is just a guess.

Beware of ebay fees, $2000 dollar sale is gonna cost you $200. I would try Reverb.com and consider offers. The shipping is not going to be small and the packing and boxing have to be done properly or it will get trashed. Good luck trying to claim any insurance damage unless you have UPS or someone pack it for you.

                Where are you located at?

They must have a bit of a following. I'd offer about $250-$300. That's not a criticism, just that I'm already factoring what it would cost me in time and money to clean it up, have a full service ($200 + here), slap a new baffle and speaker/s in it, possibly recover it etc. I might be the wrong customer for this though (obviously). Interesting amp nonetheless, don't see many around. Good luck with the sale.

No I definitely understand what you're saying. Turns out they have a big following amongst blues harp players.
