just won this 200watt tube bass amp on ebay.

its an Australian/New zealand designed and made amp from the late 60's/early 70's, which is apparently based quite heavily on hiwatt designs. havent found a schematic or anything more than 1 for sale from some vintage guitar/bass/amp shop. the amp runs on 4 6550 tubes, some of the little info i found is that it is similar to a hiwatt circuitwise. the thing also came with a matching bass cabinet.
the guy said in the ad that it was currently running on 2 6550's. i asked him wether its full number was 4, or something else and how many preamp tubes it has. he sent me back saying "there are 4 valves in it all in working condition, as for the rest im not sure" i dont know wether to take that as 4 poweramp valves or 4 in total (there are 2 channels, so i doubt that it is 4 in total) or wether he put another 2 in to make sure that they were still working and then said that there were 4 in there. he may have pulled the other 2 to not use them up as they are expensive tubes to replace.
aparently is very oringinal and good condition, but i got it thinking i might use it as a platform for modification. was thinking i may put a preamp with a master volume into it (theres a thread about it in the theory and design about overdriving a pentode pamp valve to get an idea for the pamp i was thinking of). might also keep it original and do a different amp thats specifically for guitar with that pamp.
the only issue is if the powertubes need replacing, its 300$ australian for the replacements being 6550's. if thats nessisary i may consider converting them to el34's (either 4, or add another 2 to get 6 and keep the 200 watt output. that will depend on the PT in there though, as im sure the 6550's run at much higher voltage than el34's would.
if anyone happens to know where i could find a schematic that would be great, but i heard that their amps were made with what they had in stock, so they might not be the same, but im sure things like the tone stack and things like that would be the same. just maybe different tubes.
