    72 Twin Reverb-What Chassis? help

    Hello, N2TF,
    just acquired a 1972 Twin Reverb... as far as I can identify. playing to get the feel of this badboy. but... the low end is wubbley muddy. in my research... sounds like that's a CBS failure, and modding to BF would do the trick.
    Any suggestions? help? I found this forum on a google search for more info... and very impressed with the support, culture and brainiacs here.
    I guess I'm too used to the DEAN Guitar forum...

    this is right up my alley! I'm more of a techie, hands on DIY'er.

    Modding to blackface sounds like a good project if that will help with the wubblies.

    so far I am really happy with this amp. all original... have pics if interested in shape it's in.

    looking for help identifying the chassis model, and info on bf mod... hmmm whatever else I can.

    Just have it serviced first.. by someone who KNOWS Fenders..and see if someone has messed with it/ modified it.

      Check these

      Here's a link with two versions of your amp. Check the values around the phase inverter. Check it over for any mods that may have been done first. If you're going straight to Blackface, who cares, really. If you're in it for the learning experience, it's fun to change one thing at a time, then give it an audition. Keep in mind that you may need/want to change ALL if the electrolytics out of principle. That'll keep you out of trouble if you plan to gig with it.         Thanks for the reply,
        I ordered new filter caps, Sprague Atoms (blue) and some resistors from Hoffman (excellent to deal with and prompt) and changed those out.
        It took the muddy wobbleys away, what a difference.
        I've researched more and found www.turretboards.com to find that they are located a few miles from my house and they stock kits, parts, etc. so Now I can obtain replacement components in a jiffy cutting out the mail wait.
        so, as advised earlier, I'm doing one thing at a time, playing, running it through the paces and deciding from there if I like it.
        I know that I can reverse whatever I do, so that's cool.
        I appreciate your response and thanks so much for the advice!
